Everything which is not Forbidden is Allowed
From 1880s to 2008 Bank Street buildings were part of Sheffield’s legal quarter, home to lawyers and solicitors who dealt with the functioning of the city, from mortgages to murder.
But how does a society mediate itself in order to function effectively, both via the agency of the self through virtue, and by the state through its laws? How do we experience the tacit underpinning of our everyday lives by a legal framework?
This residency by Sheffield based arts collaborative utk has developed as a response to the ongoing research into the history of Bank Street. With reference to its legal past, utk look at the wider resonances of what the law means to us, we will investigate how we ourselves behave within the group, but will also explore where we may end up if we choose to head-off at a tangent.
