Dr Karen Harvey will be presenting a talk on the history of 32-40 Bank Street as a pre-curser for a book that will be published on the same subject. Karen is a cultural historian of eighteenth-century Britain and holds a residency at Bank Street Arts. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Member of the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and was awarded a Senate Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in 2007. Karen’s research uses written and visual, printed and manuscript sources, along with buildings and material culture, to examine gender, identity and power.
This is a great opportunity for artists interested in collaborating on the publication to attend the talk, to understand the concept and scope for the book. Any Artists with an interest in contributing are strongly encouraged to attend. Likewise, those with an interest in the history of the building and Karen’s wider work, who wish to come along but are not looking to contribute to the final output of a book are welcome to attend.
